The lover is based on a French novel named L'AMANT written by MARGUERITE DUGS. It was a true story of the writer.

The two leading actors, Liang Jiahui(TONY), Jane March(GIRL),are both remarkable. They are able to instantly and realistically express the sudden change of emotions and intentions that spiral throughout the film.

The lover tells a story of a rich Chinese man and a poor French girl who studied in Vietnam. One night stand made them get close to each other. They found happiness, passion and freedom in their love. But Tony’s father arranged his marriage for familial business, he has to follow his father’s arrangement,any resistance is no useful. They accepted the fact quietly and went on loving each other.

It is time to say goodbye at the end of the film. The end is as gloomy as we expected. Tony married that Chinese woman from a rich family, and the French girl left Vietnam for France.

I am sure the love between them can bring maximum joy and infinite sadness, love is always with two sides. To M, love turns into memory and remains in her heart forever.

The film progresses slowly and beautifully, just like the Meigong River itself. They dated and made love many times in the small room. The director employs his usual wide angle shots and long take in beautiful HD. Now it is very easy or specters to find what they were looking for in the scene.

Maybe love comes from depression

Only love, can save the oppressive heart.
