Here's my speech of the CCTV Speech Contest in 2008 during the first two rounds in my university. I revised it a lot so as to get my viewpoint across to you.  

1+1=2?

                               ---Build your bridge

        One plus one is not always two, the result can be worth the value of the whole world. But how can we measure it and what can join us together? A bridge－It’s the bridge of the Red Cross that links us to the victims in disaster areas together, and thus their emotional traumas can be soothed. It’s by the bridge of the Olympic Games that people from every corner of the world can form a closer friendship with one another. It’s the bridge of communication that links isolated hearts together filling the world with reassurance and strength.

        Ladies and gentlemen, here I have a story to tell you. After WWII, a city in West Germany was in shambles. the Rhine flowed around the city whose connections were broken off because the two linked bridges were blown up in the war. It was miserable and people suffered from daily necessity shortage. There were no residences, no schools, no hospitals and even no stores. However, the mayor declared to rebuild the two bridges first, while others disagreed and insisted this shouldn’t be the first concern. Nevertheless, the mayor overrode all the objections and carried out the original intention. In fact, the mayor was right. After the two bridges linked the city together, the traffic was unblocked and the city revived quickly. Build a bridge, link yourself with others. What a philosophical thought it is !

       Ladies and gentlemen, we live in the same world. We should ask ourselves, what materals do we need to build our bridges with other people? What do we lack? Do we need an optimistic mood? Do we lack sympthy? Or do we have sincerity of understanding for others? Build your bridge, link you and me. We are not alone, because there can be hundreds of thousands of bridges connecting us.

       When a succession of individual handouts and international contributions pour into the earthquake-stricken area, millions upon millions of caring hearts form an ocean of love.

       When the Oceanic Flyover Bridge links Shanghai and Ningbo, the benefit of connecting these two cities is a promising prospect for the whole of southern China.

       When the zeal of patriotism linked overseas and domestic Chinese firmly, the riot in Tibit subsided quickly.

      When the Slik Road linked Tang Dynasty and Europe, it promoted the cultural exchange between the East and the  West.

     Here you can see one plus one is infinite while building a bridge between you and the whole world.

     By building bridges, we will have more strength to defeat any disaster.

     By building bridges, we will realise our dreams.

     By building bridges, we will weave miracles together.
