work along both lines  双管齐下

come straight to the point  单刀直入

keep going by painstaking effort  惨淡经营

stand together through storm and stress  风雨同舟

a curious coincidence  鬼使神差

congratulate each other 弹冠相庆

toil and moil  呕心沥血

depend on each other for survival  相依为命

eat, drink and be merry  吃喝玩乐

a good-for-nothing  酒囊饭袋

win universal praise  有口皆碑

each going his own way  分道扬镳

be as close as lips and teeth  唇齿相依

as professional as professional could be 炉火纯青

beat about the bush  旁敲侧击

engage in idle theorizing 纸上谈兵

 try to be clever only to end in blunder  弄巧成拙

live in peace with each other  相安无事

as clearly as a blazing fire  隔岸观火

    所有的这些都是我看书而来的，但感觉有些翻译得很生硬，失去了原来的味道，希望各方高人提出更好的建议！
